Dream a Little Dream of Bad Parenting

I’m aware of the fact that I dream every night, although I usually (and thankfully) forget the specifics. The subject matter has not improved with age. When I used to suffer nightmares about showing up at school naked, I now suffer nightmares about showing up at work naked. Must say, my post-breastfeeding boobs look pretty good. I still dream about running and not getting anywhere, falling out of the sky, and being trapped in a car underwater. This might be a cry for help, but mostly I think I’m mentally and emotionally o-k. Yeah.

Last night I had a dream that I have had before in different variations.

I’m running from the law.

I think I was in college when I first started experiencing this dream scenario. Usually, I’ve broken into an ATM machine. Nothing to really worry about here folks, I’m lucky I can even remember my pin number to get my own money out of an ATM.

My dream always starts to resemble ‘normal’ (like walking around the grocery store naked) when suddenly the chase begins again. I jump in my convertible, adjust my head scarf, and off I go running again.

But just like those naked dreams, this dream too has not improved with age. Long ago when this dream first started, my backseat was filled with cash! Let’s pause a moment and think about how many nice pairs of boots we could buy with a backseat full of cash.

Now, my backseat is filled with cash… and a car seat. Yes folks, my son is along for the ride.

I’m not sure what this dream says about me and I don’t think I want to know.

Do me a favor and don’t judge, just send appropriate medications.

  1. That is hilarious! I had a make out dream with an ex college boyfriend (who I haven’t seen in 15 years) in a car with my child in the backseat. Woke up with that sick feeling all day! What a cute little officer you have there!

    • My cute little officer keeps me honest… at least when I’m not dreaming about breaking the law. Motherhood makes it difficult to live guilt free, even in our dreams. 🙂
